May 26 and September (TBD) 2015. New Hampshire’s STAR ISLAND. A unique day trip for migrants. Warblers will be the focus and the highlight and almost anything is possible. Weather dependent. June 22-27, 2015. Bicknell’s Thrush and the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine, including Lake Umbagog. Based on last year’s successful tour to an enchanting area at a great time of year. It includes a tram ride up Cannon Mountain for the Bicknell’s Thrush, a boat trip and exploration of the stunning Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, and some of the most surprisingly spectacular scenery in the east!

Almost New trip! July 14-16, 2015Puffins and scenery along the mid-coast of Maine. Puffins are back on the Merlin schedule after many years! This short tour will focus on a boat only trip to see Atlantic Puffins (no landing). Great scenery and lighthouses will be the back-drop for the spectacular sea birds that summer along the coast. And did I mention the seafood?

New trip! August 3-8, 2015. Tides and Bird Spectacles of the Bay of Fundy. Some of the highest tides in the world churn up an abundance of food for migrant shorebirds. Our timing allows us to witness one the greatest concentrations of sandpipers in North America. We will also explore Fundy National Park and the Downeast coast of Maine.

Almost New trip! August 22-25 2015. N H Audubon’s northern Sanctuaries with Phil Brown and Bob Quinn. A unique and in-depth exploration of NH Audubon’s northern NH properties with the guys who know all the stories, and the birds! This trip will focus on Pittsburg but include a boat trip Newfound Lake as well. Details to follow, but mark your calendars now.

September 2015. Date TBD. New Hampshire’s Star Island. See May 26 above for more information. Contact Bob or Anne if you have any interest in this trip.

September 22-26, 2015. Monhegan Island, Maine. Monhegan is one of the most enchanting islands on the east coast; and it is a birding Mecca during the fall migration. Four nights on the island. By popular request.

October 1-6, 2015. Lake Umbagog, fall foliage and the wildlife of northern N. H. Join me for a journey into the wilds of northern New Hampshire for spectacular mountain peaks, brilliant fall foliage, Moose (maybe), birds (of course), bogs and other good times! It is home to Mount Washington, the most spectacular mountain east of the Rockies, wild and unspoiled Lake Umbagog and the stunning Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge.

Almost New trip! October 18-27, 2015. Columbia River Gorge, Mt. St. Helens, and the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail. A fascinating gorge described as a “Top ten scenic wonder” plus Mt. St. Helens and Lewis and Clark history. From the amazing river that separates Washington State from Oregon to the explosive remnants of St. Helens this is a rather different part of the northwest from the rainy Olympic coastline farther north.

November 13-16, 2015 (extension November 16-18), 2015. A local reunion! It is a long time overdue so this November we will have a Merlin Reunion! Gathering along the coast of New Hampshire we will look at pictures, share stories, socialize, and reminisce. Just think of those memories and re-living the good times and great wildlife. And we won’t forget to watch a few birds each day. Then for those in search of coastal birds there will be an extension for the rare birds of November. Mark your calendars now for this once in a decade happening!

November 30 through December 8, 2015. South Florida, the Everglades, and the Florida Keys. For the first time in many years we will foray down the Florida Keys at a great time of the year. Lots of birds, excellent weather, and the “snowbirds” are still up north.

January 2016 (details to be announced). BELIZE With the President of the NH Audubon Society. Belize is a fabulous winter destination with spectacular and unique birds plus the wonders of the Mayans and their remarkable ruins and culture. After about a week in the “jungle” we will head for the coast- and the inviting Caribbean. Still in the planning stages but please inquire.

NEW! (tentatively)  March 16-23, 2016. BIRDS AND BASEBALL IN ARIZONA! A great way to welcome spring with the birds of southern AZ and the sound of the crack of the bat during Spring Training. We will combine daily birding with a couple of spring training games which are a unique opportunity for baseball fans who are also birders to see National League players up close and personally. This specialty tour is designed for a small group so don’t delay. Play Ball!

November 2016. Botswana– the Kalahari Desert, Okavango Delta, and Victoria Falls. There is strong interest in this remarkable tour so please contact Anne as soon as possible.
