Every night a Red Fox walks down my driveway while making his rounds. And it is always in the same direction. How do I know? Because he leaves his tracks in the snow and frequently leaves an actual calling card (droppings). Fox tracks are distinctive and when the animal is moving slowly but steadily they leave a straight line of dainty tracks, similar to house cat tracks but noticeably larger. On occasion they will diverge briefly from the straight and narrow to check out a squirrel or rabbit track, which of course is the reason for the foxes wanderings. But mostly when passing through my yard the animal just keeps on going. Some day when I have time I will follow those intriguing tracks and see where the critter comes from and where it ends up. And then I might understand why my canine visitor is so consistent.
